Hi, I'm Nick Founder, Breathing Edge
For over twenty five years I worked in the fast-paced, high-pressure world of finance, much of it in Asia, most of it at full throttle. The chronic stress accumulated slowly, the way it always does. Until the body started keeping score in ways I could no longer ignore.
I tried everything. Some things helped a little. Nothing really stuck.
Then I picked up a book on breathing. Something shifted immediately, not a gentle interest but a deep recognition. I had found the missing piece. I began a years-long journey of study with some of the world's leading breath work researchers, scientists and teachers, and what I discovered changed everything.
The breath underpins nearly every function of human physiology. It shapes how we respond to stress, illness, anxiety, sleep, performance and life itself. And yet almost nobody talks about it. No GP has ever measured your breathing rate. No clinician has ever watched how your chest moves. The most fundamental thing your body does, twenty five thousand times a day, goes almost entirely unexamined.
That is what Breathing Edge exists to change.
I now live in the extraordinary surroundings of Queenstown, New Zealand, about as far from a trading floor as it is possible to get. Every morning I am reminded how far the journey has come. And every course I write is the thing I wish someone had handed me twenty years ago.
Training & Qualifications
My approach to breathing is shaped by some of the most respected teachers in the field, people whose work sits at the intersection of physiology, performance and practice.
I trained as an Advanced Instructor with Oxygen Advantage under Patrick McKeown, whose pioneering research into functional breathing and CO2 tolerance underpins much of the science taught across Breathing Edge courses. I hold a Certified Instructor qualification with Breatheology under Stig Severinsen, multiple world-record freediver and one of the most respected voices in breath-hold training and human performance. I am also a Certified Instructor with Yogalap under Michael Bijker, whose work bridges ancient pranayama tradition and modern physiology. And I trained as both a Breath Coach and Stretch Coach with YOGABODY under Lucas Rockwood, a globally recognised educator in accessible breath and movement practice.
These teachers shaped not just what I know but how I teach, with rigour, with honesty, and with deep respect for the complexity of what the breath can do.
